a quick step-by-step guide to boudoir
Booking a boudoir photo shoot can be extremely intimidating.. We all face self-doubt and think, “Will I look good posing in lingerie?", or "will I be comfortable and have fun with this?", or “Will they notice this flaw?”
The truth is, if you book with a trusted boudoir photographer like me, all reasonable doubts and apprehensions can thankfully be put aside. In this blog post, I’ll walk you through the end-to-end experience of a boudoir photography session with Boudoir by Winter.
Step 1: Consultation
You’ve finally decided to make that commitment. Congratulations! Now, how do I book a session? There are two ways that are easiest to be in touch with me. 1) Book a Consultation on my website, or 2) DM @boudoirbywinter on Instagram.
Once you reach out, I’ll respond ASAP to set up a time to talk. It's a chance for you to get to know me. This is a very personal experience for people. You should be comfortable with the person that you are choosing to be part of this journey.
This is also time for me to get to know you, your style, and what your goals are with your experience. Typically, a consultation takes about 30-45 minutes. During this time, we design every aspect of your boudoir session.
Each session is individually designed for every client. Every aspect is tailor made for you. You select the boudoir experience level, the makeup look, and lingerie; each piece of the experience screams you. You also select the date and time for your shoot.
I have a list of questions that we review, that way the whole experience is tailored made just for you.
Step 2: Prep
Most of my clients ask me, “How do I prepare for this shoot? Do I need to shave? Do I need to get my hair done? What about nails? Can I use my own lingerie?”
For a boudoir session, I would recommend staying as true to yourself as possible. Honesty is key for a successful boudoir shoot! At the end of the day, it’s the photographer’s job to make you feel comfortable in your skin. If you want to shave, go for it. If you don’t, I’m not worried about it. You need to be as comfortable as possible going into the shoot so we can get the best possible pictures.
Don’t try to be someone you’re not.
Step 3: Day of Shoot
We start each shoot with reviewing each detail of the shoot. We go over the different lingerie looks, makeup look, and style one last time before we get going. From there, we begin your transformation process.
We start with you in the transformation chair, getting HYPED by my team. Watch my team bring out the inner goddess that's inside you. They are amazing at creating an atmosphere that is comfortable and soothing while they put your makeup and hair looks together.
Then, it's time to slip into something a little more comfortable. But don’t worry, have peace of mind knowing that every session is private. Sessions are done on a 1-on-1 basis, unless you choose otherwise.
We turn on the music and let the fun begin. We’ll spend the next two to three hours creating amazing images together. This is where your inner goddess gets to scream. This is where you can express yourself without anyone judging you. Boudoir photography provides a safe space where you can be yourself, which is one of the reasons why I love it so much.
Step 4: Editing
Once the fun of the shoot is over, I spend the next few weeks touching up the images. This is where I put the final touches of my style on your images. I’ll adjust the lighting, touch up small blemishes, but I try to keep the images as natural as possible. Remember, beauty is individual and unique.
It’s not just for the weeks after you complete your first marathon or when your summer tan is the perfect shade of gold. Every stage of life is beautiful, and showcasing your strength with a sexy boudoir photography session in your last months of a cherished pregnancy or during the nervous weeks before you get married is a wonderful way to celebrate beauty and strength at every stage of life.
Enter Step 5: Review and approve
While the shoot, and the feelings of confidence are my clients favorite part of the boudoir experience, the photo reveal is my favorite part. Showing clients how beautiful they are is why I do this. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and watching my clients see their beauty is life changing.
We’ll review your images together, and pick out the best of the best. Picking from these amazing images is difficult. This can be the hardest part for my clients.
We also pick which images get printed, or which images will be part of your book. Each book comes with a custom cover that is hand picked by you. I have a wide selection of swatches of different materials that you can choose from: leather, fabric, or something wild like sequins.
Once all images are selected, I’ll put my final touches on the images, order prints, and compile your amazing book. For digital images, you’ll receive a link for secure downloads. Any books or prints that are delivered to you will come in a discreet box, so no one will be any the wiser.
